Community Church History

God’s
commission to The WaterBrook Community Church is to reconcile
all people to Jesus Christ. Under
the anointing of the Holy Spirit, our mandate is to live
and preach the gospel, minister healing and wholeness to
all, and prepare one another for the work of the ministry.

WaterBrook
Community Church began in 1992 as Airdrie Foursquare Church, an
extension of The Garden, The First Foursquare Church of Calgary.
Our church was birthed using the name “Airdrie Foursquare
Church”, simply defining our geographic location and the
denomination that we are affiliated with. Over the course of a
decade, there began to develop a sense that we needed to redefine
who we are in the community. Although we cherish our Foursquare
heritage, the term “Foursquare” does not communicate
well in this day and age. In light of this we have changed the
name of our church to reflect who God has formed us into.
This
has been so much more than a name change, it’s a clarification
of who we are in this community.

not that we are merely changing our name; it’s that
we are coming into who God has called and created us to
be as a congregation, and we want our name to reflect our
history and our identity”.

The
scriptures that have been key in this decision are as follows:
Psalm
42:1 As the deer pants for the WATER BROOKS, so pants
my soul for You, O God.
Psalm 63:1-2 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty
land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the
sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.
“WaterBrook”
reflects the peaceful refreshing of the presence of the Lord that
we bring to a land thirsting for a genuine encounter with God.
“Community”
is welcoming to everyone, encompassing a multi-denominational
heritage (the community of faith), our entire city (the community
in which we live), our province and nation ( the Canadian community)
and our world (the global community). We are a place where real
community (communion) takes place.
WaterBrook
Community Church is delighted to be part of the Foursquare Gospel
family of churches. We cherish being a part of the family He has
called us to.
